Here are answers to the most common questions we get from Canadian veterans, partners, and supporters interested in cybersecurity.
Our programs are open to all Canadian veterans — active, reserve, and retired — as well as their spouses and primary partners. There are no age, service era, or geographic restrictions. Military service is validated through official documentation such as an NDI 75 card, MPRR, or active military ID.
We offer free cybersecurity training through our partners Fortinet, Cisco, and SentinelOne. Courses cover networking fundamentals, cybersecurity essentials, governance, incident response, penetration testing, and compliance. SentinelOne training enables veterans to earn certifications in intelligent, unified endpoint security. We also offer the Cisco Ethical Hacker course and participation in the Cisco Cyber Games Americas.
All core cybersecurity training — including Fortinet, Cisco, and SentinelOne courses — is completely free for eligible Canadian veterans and their partners. Tech Vets Canada is a registered charity, and our mission is to remove financial barriers to cybersecurity careers.
All training is delivered online and self-paced, typically ranging from 40 to 75 hours. We use platforms like Cisco NetAcad and partner portals, with Discord as our community hub for support, questions, and peer connection.
Career paths vary based on your background and skills, but typical roles include security analyst, incident responder, compliance specialist, and penetration tester. First-year salaries typically range from $50,000 to $70,000. Veterans bring highly valued soft skills — dependability, attention to detail, stress management, and teamwork.
